Van Cleef & Arpels has announced an unforgettable exhibition. Taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in partnership with the Saudi Ministry of Culture, Van Cleef & Arpels: Time, Nature, Love will present more than 280 jewellery, watches and precious objects, as well as rarely seen archival documents. Curated by Alba Cappellieri, professor of jewellery design at Politecnico di Milano and president of the Milan Fashion Institute, as well as the architect and designer Johanna Gravunder, the exhibition interprets the House’s heritage through three chapters: time, nature and love.
Time presents the creative process in multiple contexts. This theme is not only a literal reference to the thousands of hours spent creating masterpieces, but also a tribute to Van Cleef & Arpels’ ability to connect the past, present and future, to constantly evolve and create works that define an era. The 1949 Ludo bracelet watch featured in this section exemplifies these qualities, presenting a sapphire-encircled secret watch created with movements ahead of their time.
The second Nature chapter is a tribute to Van Cleef & Arpels’ beloved inspiration. Plants, flowers and animals have served as inspiration for countless creations, and the House has brought their kaleidoscopic palette to life with coloured stones. Finally, the Love exhibition features 30 objects, jewels and archival documents reflecting the power of precious gifts and love itself. Don’t miss the Barquerolles choker, which once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor and was received as a gift from her husband Richard Burton.
The exhibition will be on view from 19 January to 15 April 2023 at the Saudi National Museum.
