The Met Gala, one of the top fashion events of the year, took place in New York last night. This time it was dedicated to the legacy of the late Karl Lagerfeld. He was creative director of Chanel until his death, so many star guests stepped onto the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing the designer’s creations.
For example, singer Dua Lipa appeared on the carpet in an archival bridesmaid’s dress worn by Claudia Schiffer to close the Chanel show in 1992, Margot Robbie wore a seductive 1996 dress, Nicole Kidman wore an iconic dress worn during the Chanel #5 ad shoot 19 years ago in 2004, and Naomi Campbell chose a Chanel couture pink dress from the Spring 2010 collection.
However, all eyes were on actor Jared Leto, who dressed up as the late Lagerfeld’s favorite cat, Shoupette, whose “presence” had been previously reported by the organizers.
Kim Kardashian’s sisters, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, and Paris Hilton, who was invited to the Met Gala for the first time, appeared at the ball. Other guests included Jennifer Lopez (who incidentally posed for pictures without husband Ben Affleck), Cara Delevingne, Jessica Chastain, Sydney Sweeney, Elle Fanning, Lily Collins, Pedro Pascal, Ashley Graham and other celebrities.
Of course, there was no shortage of celebrity couples: Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault, Suki Waterhouse and Robert Pattinson, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, Rita Ora and Taika Waititi, James McAvoy and Lisa Liberati, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness and many more.
