On May 7, Windsor Castle hosted a grand coronation concert marking the historic coronation of Charles III and Queen Camilla. The show included not only classical ballet and opera numbers, but also performances by international pop stars. Katy Perry, Nicole Scherzinger, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli and other performers took to the stage.
Katy Perry, wearing a gold-coloured Vievienne Westwood ball gown, performed her hits “Roar” and “Firework”. Nicole Scherzinger, who chose an exquisite blue velvet corset dress for the event, performed a cover of Christina Aguilera’s “Reflection” from the Disney cartoon “Mulan”. Lionel Richie sat down at the piano to perform The Commodores’ classic ballad “Easy”, followed by his own signature composition “All Night Long”.
Celebrity guests at the concert included Lionel Richie’s daughter Sophia, who recently got married, designer Stella McCartney and other celebrities. Of course, the King and Queen also attended the concert with their family – Prince William and Kate Middleton, who took 9-year-old Prince George and 8-year-old Princess Charlotte to the show. Their younger brother Louis, the monarch parents seem to have decided to keep at home after Saturday’s hours-long coronation ceremony at Wesminster Abbey.
At some point in the evening, Prince William took to the stage to celebrate his father’s achievements, as well as honouring the late Queen Elizabeth II.
“I want to say a few words about my father and why I think this weekend is so important. But don’t worry, unlike Lionel, I won’t be going on all night long,” joked the Prince of Wales and first claimant to the British throne. – “As my grandmother said when she was crowned: ‘The coronation is a declaration of our hopes for the future’. And I know she’s up there watching us lovingly. She would have been very proud.”
