Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are ending their partnership with Spotify. The Duchess of Sussex’s podcast Archetypes, in which she discussed with guests the oppression of women in the modern world, was not very successful and closed after the first season. A joint statement from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s production company Archewell Audio and Spotify said:
“The team who worked on Archetypes are still proud of the podcast they created on Spotify.”
An insider assures that the grandson of Elizabeth II and his wife have not been producing content to the extent that they have since the deal was struck. Just a few episodes in two years is so little that the producers felt the project was pointless. That said, there is another version of what happened, voiced by the couple’s representatives.
“Meghan continues to develop more content for the Archetype audience on a different platform,” a spokeswoman for the couple’s company, Archewell Productions, told The Wall Street Journal.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry signed a $20 million deal with Spotify in late 2020. Insiders claim the royal couple did not meet the “performance criteria required to receive the full payment”.
