The photographer of the 2024 Pirelli calendar is Prince Gayazi Nyantaki, 28-year-old Ghanaian photographer who calls himself Prince Gayazi for short. The Pirelli 2024 editionĀ features celebrities from various fields, including model Naomi Campbell, actress Angela Bassett, writer Margot Lee Shetterly, poet and social activist Amanda Gorman, actor Idris Elba, singers Tiwa Savage and Teyana Taylor, artist Amoako Boafo, producer James Samuel, footballer Marcel Desailly and Prince Gayazi himself.
One of his works was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Ashanti Kingdom where he reflected the anniversary celebrations with King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The Calendar was shot in London and then in Prince Gayazi’s homeland of Ghana.
“Being the first African black artist for The Cal Project has given me the opportunity to tell the stories of people who have inspired me over the years, both as a child and now as an adult,” says Gayazi.
Gayazi invites the audience into a hyper-coloured universe created under the influence of his neurological trait of synaesthesia, through which he associates colours with words. For example, for Gaiazi, the day of the week “Wednesday” is aquamarine.
