After the release of the film ‘Basic Instinct’ in 1992, Sharon Stone became one of the most popular actresses in the world. She was pursued by crowds of fans, waited for her near her home, sent parcels and flowers. Once, talking to the famous actor Sylvester Stallone, she heard from him the following:

“Sly drew my attention to the fact that when an actor walks down the street, the people around him keep their hands in their pockets. And you don’t know if they’re reaching for an autograph pen or a gun,” Sharon told The Sun.

That’s why the actress has been wary of fans her whole life, fearing someone might kill her. According to Stone, after the fame fell on her, she realised that she was not ready for it. The realisation came at the Cannes Film Festival in 1992.

“I didn’t have a make-up artist or a hairdresser. Not even a security guard. Imagine being at Cannes with Basic Instinct and no security,” she remarked.

Fans of the actress grabbed her arms, climbed on the roof of the car in which she was travelling, tore off pieces of clothing, wanting to get ‘a piece of their idol’. Yet, despite the craziness of the fans, achieving fame was something of a relief for the actress.

“It was so crazy. When I walked down the carpet in Cannes and a thousand people started chanting my name, I got such a wave of relief, such a sense of calm. I just knew I was going to be a star. So when it happened, I suddenly felt like I was in my body,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
