Britney Spears’ memoir adaptation will be directed by Jon M. Chu (who directed “Crazy Rich Asians”) and produced by Marc Webb. The Grammy winner’s biographical book was released last October and has sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States alone. In the book, Spears recounts her journey to pop superstardom, from her work in the Mickey Mouse Club to her father Jamie Spears’ scandalous tutelage and complicated relationship with her mother Lynne Spears. The audiobook, voiced by Michelle Williams, has become the most listened to audiobook on Spotify in 2023.
The project is being produced by Marc Platt (“La La Land”), whose TV shows and stage productions have earned a combined 46 Oscar nominations, 48 Emmy nominations and 36 Tony nominations. Britney shared the news of the biopic on social media on Thursday, 1 August.
“Excited to share with my fans that I am working on a secret project with Marc Platt. He has always made some of my favourite films. Stay tuned for updates,” Spears wrote.
Filming and release dates have yet to be announced, as well as the cast. The biographical film is based on Spears’ memoir The Woman in Me, which chronicles her childhood in Louisiana and her meteoric rise to fame.
