Rihanna can upset and delight fans at the same time: recently she said that she has no plans to return to music, but immediately appeared on social networks with an unexpected video, which has already gained almost a million likes. The singer of the hit song ‘Umbrella’ sat on a bench at a bus stop in front of a billboard for her brand Fenty Beauty.

‘I’m just waiting for the bus,’ she left a humorous caption.

In the video, Rihanna was wearing a white top and black trousers, as well as a lime-coloured scarf with a large pouf on the end. The video clip was shot to the track ‘MMM Instrumental Remake’ by musician Swift On Demand. Fans expressed their admiration for the star’s sense of humour in the comments, but especially loyal fans who of course recalled Rihanna’s recent comments hinting at her retirement from music.

‘That’s good, but when will there be new music?’ – a fan wrote.

Last week, the singer performed a rousing set as a DJ while celebrating the opening of the new Fenty Beauty shop on her home island of Barbados.

‘My music got everyone’s attention, but God had other plans for me,’ she said, addressing the audience.

Considering that there hasn’t been a new record from the queen of pop in 8 years, this statement has heightened fans’ fears that Rihanna will never finish her long-awaited 9th album and may even never release new music at all again. Many expressed their displeasure on social media, suggesting that work on her new studio album seems to have stalled. Earlier this summer, the singer was spotted wearing a t-shirt with the words ‘I’m retired’ on it, but she did not explicitly state that she was retiring from music. Moreover, she denied that there was any subtext to her T-shirt, noting that such simple clothing was ‘the only thing she could afford at the time,’ alluding to her lack of time as a mother of two young children. Despite this, Rihanna is very focused on developing her cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty and clothing brand Savage X Fenty, noting constantly that she enjoys the creative process immensely.
