Gwen Stefani has recently opened up about the unexpected sides of parenthood, revealing how difficult raising children really is. The No Doubt lead singer gave an interview to Stellar Magazine and detailed how important her three sons, whom she is raising with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, are in her life.
‘Being a parent is not something you imagine when you’re a little girl and you think, ‘I’m going to be a mum!’ It’s so profound,’ she told the publication. – ‘Their happiness is my happiness. Being sane means making sure they’re safe, happy and loved.’
Stefani said that a big part of motherhood is being included in the lives of her children.
‘The responsibility is more than you could ever imagine and you take immense pride in your children and the countless rewards that come along with the trials, anxiety, worries and stresses that come automatically are very important.’
Gwen is mum to 18-year-old Kingston, 16-year-old Zuma and 10-year-old Apollo. On the 2021 The First One podcast, she shared how hard it was to realise her role as a mum.
‘I remember thinking, ‘Oh my god, am I going to be a mum?’ The word just sounded weird. But I got over it very quickly, and all I ever really wanted was to have children. I have an incredible mum and my parents are still married and they were such an incredible example of true love and respect.’
Gwen Stefani stated that it’s very hard for a working mum to stay in the present moment. Although Gwen’s marriage to Gavin broke up in 2015, she later married fellow ‘Voice’ show colleague Blake Shelton. The couple married in July 2021, and Blake became stepfather to Gwen’s three sons.
