While some stars are dyeing their hair blonde and donning pink outfits to follow the unexpected Barbie trend, others are turning to the dark side at the same time. Lily James, known for her roles in the musical Mamma Mia! 2, the fairytale Cinderella and Pam and Tommy, became the face of Versace. It was only a matter of time – all of Lily’s recent red-carpet appearances have been in outfits from this particular fashion house.

In the first advertising campaign for the brand, which focuses on handbags from the new autumn-winter collection, the actress appeared in a radically different image: charming blonde turned into a fiery brunette with a torn haircut and straight fringes and bleached eyebrows. Time will tell if this is a wig or a real makeover. The images were authored by celebrity fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

In a press release issued with the shoot, there are a couple of remarks by Donatella Versace, who was pleased with the collaboration with the actress:

“When Lily stood in front of the camera, she was transformed. Wearing clothes from the new collection, she changed both externally and internally, her presentation changed and she found new energy and strength. That’s how you must feel when you wear Versace.”

It was so special and exciting to be welcomed into the Donatella Versace family, – James told. – I had never felt more empowered until I started working with Versace, and it was amazing how I instantly felt like a Versace goddess in those clothes. It’s such an honour.”

The actress also thanked the designer “for everything” and called Donatella her “inspiration”.
