Princess Azema Nimatul Bolkiah, daughter of the Sultan of the island nation of Brunei, has married Prince Bahar ibni Geoffrey Bolkiah. According to The New York Post, the marriage ceremony took place on January 8 at the groom’s father’s palace on the island of Borneo.

It is the first royal wedding in 2023. The celebrations lasted for a week. It was the magnitude that would make any royal envy! The celebrations started with a reception in the palace’s banquet hall, after which the newlyweds went through seven more ceremonies. Among them was the traditional rite of powdering – receiving a blessing from the families.

On the last day of the festivities, which fell on January 15, the bride’s younger brother, Prince Mateen, congratulated the newlyweds on social media.

“I am so happy for my sister,” he signed photos capturing moments from the two ceremonies.

The bride changed several outfits throughout the celebration. Among them, an ivory-coloured crystal-encrusted gown and a grey-coloured look were spotted. The princess complemented the looks with spectacular jewellery, including a heart-shaped diamond tiara. The accessory belonged to her stepmother, Queen Saleh.

The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, 76, ranked as the world’s longest reigning sultan after the death of British Queen Elizabeth II. He was proclaimed sultan on 5 October 1967. Princess Azema Nimatul Bolkiah, 38, is the Sultan’s eighth child by his former wife Haji Mariam.
