Music trendsetter Pharrell Williams, a 49-year-old singer and sound producer, has been named creative director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s division, it was officially announced the night before. Pharrell will replace Virgil Abloh, who passed away in November 2021. The first collection created under Williams’ direction will see the light of day at the Paris Menswear Fashion Week in June.

“I am delighted to welcome back Pharrell, who has returned home after our 2004 and 2008 collaborations with Louis Vuitton, as creative director of the men’s line. His creative vision that goes beyond fashion will surely lead to a new and exciting chapter,” states the official statement from Louis Vuitton president and chairman of the board of directors Pietro Beccari.

The brand justifies its choice of a new creative director as follows:

“Pharrell Williams is a visionary whose creative universe extends from music to art to fashion, having established himself as a global cultural icon over the past 20 years.”

It should be recalled that Virgil Abloh passed away after a lengthy battle with angiosarcoma of the heart, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, at the age of 41. Abloh’s creative vision was supported by many international celebrities, such as Kanye West, Drake, Rihanna, Frank Ocean and others.
