47-year-old Colombian star Shakira has delighted fans with long-awaited news – she plans to release a new album, which will be called “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran”, which means “Women Don’t Cry Anymore” in Spanish. The singer issued a press release just after Valentine’s Day, on Thursday, 15 February.

“The process of creating this work was alchemy,” Shakira said. – While writing each song, I was revitalising myself. As I sang them, my tears turned into diamonds and my vulnerability into strength.”

The title apparently refers to Shakira’s collaboration with artist Bizarrap, while working on “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” in 2023, she sings the line “Las mujeres ya no llora, las mujeres facturan,” which translates to “Women don’t cry anymore, they make money.” Although Shakira has released singles in recent years, her last full-length album was “El Dorado,” released in 2017.

Since then, her life has changed significantly. In June 2022, she and her ex-husband Gerard Pique split after an 11-year relationship. The 37-year-old footballer was rumoured to have cheated on the singer with his current girlfriend Clara Chia. Shakira’s song with 25-year-old rapper Bizarrap, which racked up millions of views on YouTube a year ago, was a musical “slap in the face” to her ex and his separated girlfriend. After the breakup of the relationship, Shakira moved from Barcelona to Miami with her sons: 10-year-old Milan and 8-year-old Sasha, to start life with a clean slate. She admitted in an interview that family is more important to her than her career.

“I can release music faster now, even though sometimes I think it’s impossible to be a single mum and keep up with a pop star’s schedule,” she told Billboard in September 2023. – “When you don’t have a husband who can stay home with the kids, it’s a constant juggling act because I need to be a real mum and I need to be there for my kids every minute: taking them to school, having breakfast with them. On top of that, I need to make money.”

In autumn, Shakira was awarded the prestigious Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. In her speech, she thanked her sons and fans for inspiring her.

“I want to share this award with my fans who always support me no matter what,” she said at the time. – “Thank you so much for being my army and helping me fight all my battles.”
