Queen Mary of Denmark made a stunning appearance at a state dinner during her official visit to Finland, showcasing two historic royal jewels that had not been seen in public for over 140 years. The Danish queen wore the golden tiara of Queen Caroline Amalie, adorned with antique cameos, and a bracelet belonging to Princess Wilhelmine Marie, featuring Vesuvian stones. The royal palace revealed that these pieces had been untouched for more than a century, making Queen Mary’s choice of jewelry particularly remarkable for royal enthusiasts.
The tiara, created around 1820 for Queen Caroline Amalie, wife of King Christian VIII, holds significant historical value. The 11 precious stones adorning the tiara were discovered by her husband during an archaeological trip to Italy between 1819 and 1821, where the couple visited Rome and other notable sites. According to the palace, these jewels reflect the classical tastes of the era and were intended for everyday use, contrasting with the more extravagant diamond pieces typically reserved for grand occasions.
At the dinner, King Frederik looked dashing in a classic black tuxedo paired with a white cummerbund, while Queen Mary dazzled in a black lace gown by her favorite designer, Jesper Høvring. The dress, which she previously wore to a New Year’s Eve party at the Copenhagen Palace in 2019, featured gold leaf embellishments, a matching belt, and semi-transparent sleeves, adding a touch of elegance to her ensemble.
The Danish royal couple was warmly welcomed by Finnish President Alexander Stubb and his wife, Suzanne Innes-Stubb, at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki. During his speech, King Frederik emphasized the strong ties between Denmark and Finland, describing the two nations as part of the same family.
“Finland and Denmark are part of one family. We are northern brothers and sisters. Although we do not share a border, we share common values and perspectives. Both our nations rank among the happiest in the world. We have much in common and many reasons to celebrate,” the king stated.
