Scarlett Johansson has doubled down on her decision to stay off social media, despite mounting pressure from her cosmetics brand, The Outset, and the studio behind her upcoming film, Jurassic World: Revival, to engage online for promotional purposes. In a candid interview with InStyle, the Oscar-nominated actress revealed her philosophical stance on the issue, emphasizing personal integrity over digital trends.
“I’ve reached a point where I’ve even discussed this with my therapist,” Johansson admitted. “At one stage, I thought, ‘Maybe I should just do it.’ But then I realized it goes against my fundamental values.”

The Black Widow star revealed that colleagues and studios continue to urge her to join platforms like Instagram or TikTok. “There’s so much expected of us in this industry,” she said. “Just today, I got an email from Universal Pictures asking, ‘Hey, could you join social media for the movie’s release?’ The pressure to sign up is intense.”
Johansson, however, remains unmoved. She framed her resistance as a question of authenticity: “Is there a way for me to do this and still stay true to myself? I don’t think so.”
Her resolve highlights a growing tension between Hollywood’s marketing machinery and actors seeking to protect their privacy. While studios increasingly rely on social media buzz to drive box office numbers, Johansson’s stance underscores a rare defiance in an industry where online presence is often seen as non-negotiable.

The actress’s cosmetics brand, The Outset, which champions minimalist skincare, has also pushed for digital engagement, but Johansson insists on keeping her personal life separate from promotional demands. “My work speaks for itself,” she asserted. “If people connect with it, that’s wonderful. But I won’t compromise my peace for algorithms.”
As Jurassic World: Revival gears up for its release, Johansson’s social media boycott may test traditional promotional strategies. Yet, for now, the star seems content to let her roles—and values—do the talking.
