Kate Moss’s online store on the official Cosmoss website is no longer accessible, with potential customers complaining that the “shopping cart won’t load” and receiving no response from customer support. After just three years in operation, the brand appears to be facing an unenviable fate. Its concession in the upscale London beauty salon Liberty has closed, the Fenwick department store is selling Cosmoss products at a 30% discount, and on Discount Dragon, the brand’s perfume is being sold for half its original price—just £39 instead of £125.

These struggles may be linked to the company’s failure to file tax returns on time in 2023. Whatever the reason, the brand’s website and email have been silent since February of this year. Recently, the Daily Mail reported that employees had gone months without pay, with one claiming they hadn’t been paid “for over a year.” Staff were even forced to “take the website into their own hands” after receiving no instructions from management.

The silence on social media and the website has undoubtedly hurt the brand, especially compared to the thriving businesses of stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham, whose accounts are updated daily with fresh content. The Daily Mail spoke with an unnamed beauty journalist who shared her thoughts on why Moss’s company is failing.

“You’re not going to go to this shop, or any similar shop, if Kate Moss isn’t constantly promoting her brand,” the journalist said. “The only way to succeed in her case is to leverage her lifestyle and charisma, but you can’t do that part-time or leave things to chance and still expect success.”

According to the journalist, Moss misused her personal brand to promote Cosmoss. The supermodel does not adhere to the wellness philosophy her company promotes—a central element of the brand’s launch in 2022. Rumors suggest Moss has since returned to her old habits and made no effort to hide it from the public.

“As we’ve seen, the ‘new’ Kate Moss looks very much like the old one—very cool, untouchable to ordinary mortals, and fond of indulging in alcohol and parties,” the journalist remarked.

Had Moss kept her personal life more private, the company’s fate might have been different, the expert suggested. So far, representatives for Kate Moss have not responded to requests for comment.
