Johnny Depp made a rare public appearance on Tuesday, July 8th, stepping into the spotlight to present his latest project as director: the biographical drama “Modi.” The film centers on the tumultuous life of bohemian Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.
The 62-year-old actor attended a closed screening for “Modi: Three Days of Madness on Wings,” marking a significant return to the director’s chair for Depp. This project comes 27 years after his directorial debut with “The Brave” in 1997. The film is set for its UK premiere this Friday.
Depp arrived at the event in his signature eclectic style, sporting dark blue-tinted sunglasses that matched his blue socks. He posed for photographers on the red carpet wearing a dark grey suit complemented by a scarf.
The premiere saw Depp warmly welcomed by colleagues involved in the film, including Riccardo Scamarcio, Bruno Guerri, and the movie’s lead actress, Antonia Desplat. Depp and Desplat shared jokes and laughter, happily posing together for pictures. Longtime friends also showed their support, notably Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and his wife Sally. The 78-year-old rocker shares a close friendship with Depp, who even joined The Rolling Stones on stage during a 2018 concert.
Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Al Pacino, “Modi” chronicles a pivotal and chaotic period in Modigliani’s life. The premiere signifies not only the unveiling of this passion project but also Depp’s much-anticipated comeback as a filmmaker after nearly three decades.
