Miley Cyrus has become the first official face of Maison Margiela in 40 years. The singer and actress stars in the French fashion house’s Avant-Première campaign, shot by renowned Italian photographer Paolo Roversi. In the striking images, Cyrus appears nude with her body covered in layers of paint, accessorized only with a Maison Margiela bag and the brand’s signature split-toe Tabi boots.

Roversi’s distinctive approach of photographing models nude remains a signature element of his work. The 32-year-old Cyrus described the experience as transformative, stating in a press release: “Posing nude for a fashion campaign felt monumental. I wore only body art and the iconic painted Tabi boots. In that moment, Margiela and I became one.”

The portraits pay homage to the brand’s signature “bianchetto” technique, first introduced by founder Martin Margiela in 1989. This method involves applying layers of white paint to furniture, clothing, and accessories, transforming surfaces into blank canvases.

Longtime fans of Cyrus quickly noted the visual connection to her controversial 2008 Vanity Fair cover, shot by Annie Leibovitz, which featured the then-15-year-old wrapped in a satin sheet. Those earlier images sparked significant media criticism at the time, leading to public apologies from both the star and magazine editors.
