Nearly two decades after Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, Emily Charlton and Nigel Kipling became part of pop-culture history, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially making its way from cinemas to streaming.

The highly anticipated sequel will be available on Disney+ and Hulu from July 29, giving audiences the chance to return to the world of Runway from home. The streaming debut follows a successful theatrical run that began on May 1, with the film earning $677 million worldwide by the time its digital release was announced.

Andy Sachs returns to Runway

Twenty years after audiences first watched Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs navigate the demanding world of Runway magazine, the character returns with an entirely different position in the fashion hierarchy.

Andy is no longer Miranda Priestly’s inexperienced assistant. She returns to New York as Runway’s features editor, while Meryl Streep’s Miranda faces an industry transformed by the decline of traditional print media and the changing economics of fashion publishing.

And then there is Emily.

Emily Blunt returns as Emily Charlton, but her former assistant days are long behind her. She has become a powerful executive at Dior and controls advertising money that Runway desperately needs following a scandal — creating a new dynamic between characters whose careers once existed under Miranda’s authority.

The original stars — and a new generation

One of the sequel’s biggest attractions is the reunion of the original cast. Alongside Hathaway, Streep and Blunt, Stanley Tucci returns as Nigel, while Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles.

The familiar faces are joined by an extensive new cast, including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet and Patrick Brammall.

Behind the camera, the sequel retains another important connection to the 2006 original. David Frankel returned to direct, while Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the screenplay for the first film, returned as writer.

Fashion remains a main character

Of course, a return to Runway would mean little without fashion.

Costume designer Molly Rogers created the wardrobe for the sequel, bringing the visual world of The Devil Wears Pradainto 2026. The film also features a long list of appearances from figures across fashion, entertainment and media, including Donatella Versace, Lady Gaga, Ashley Graham, Tina Brown, Kara Swisher, Jenna Bush Hager, Paige DeSorbo and Hannah Berner.

The result reflects how much the fashion landscape has changed since 2006. The original arrived before Instagram, TikTok and the modern influencer economy transformed the relationship between designers, magazines, celebrities and audiences. Two decades later, the sequel returns to a world where traditional fashion media must compete with an entirely different ecosystem.

A new chapter for a fashion classic

When The Devil Wears Prada premiered in 2006, it became much more than a workplace comedy. Miranda Priestly’s icy authority, Andy’s transformation and the film’s fashion moments turned it into one of the defining pop-culture films of its era.

The sequel brings those characters into a very different industry while preserving the relationships that made the original so memorable.

Now, after its theatrical success, The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives on Disney+ on July 29, opening its next chapter with a much wider global audience.

For fashion lovers, it is another opportunity to revisit Runway. For everyone else, there is Miranda Priestly — and twenty years later, that may still be reason enough.
