Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom are joining Robert Carlyle in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, bringing a substantial new cast to the Netflix crime series as production begins in the UK and Morocco.
The casting reunites Wood and Bloom after their years working together on The Lord of the Rings. All three actors will be collaborating with Ritchie for the first time.
They arrive as Theo James and Kaya Scodelario return as Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass, whose next venture takes their criminal ambitions to the Middle East.
A new ensemble enters Guy Ritchie’s world
Wood, Bloom and Carlyle lead a wider group of additions that also includes Dexter Fletcher, Bruna Marquezine, Ed Speleers, Saffron Burrows and Bugzy Malone.
For Fletcher, the series marks another connection with Ritchie after his appearance in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Bugzy Malone also previously appeared in the filmmaker’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.
The expanded ensemble introduces several established screen personalities into a story already built around competing interests, family loyalties and the business of organised crime.
Eddie and Susie set their sights on a Middle Eastern casino
Season three follows Eddie and Susie as they attempt to build a casino in the Middle East, embarking on their most ambitious project so far.
The venture raises fresh questions about Eddie’s appetite for expansion and whether the Duke’s confidence is carrying him towards consequences he cannot control.
Their partnership began after Eddie inherited Halstead Manor and became involved in Susie’s criminal world. The second season, which launched in September, followed their efforts to expand within Bobby Glass’s overseas empire while confronting increasingly questionable decisions from its leader.
The casino project gives that ambition a new destination. Filming in the UK and Morocco is now underway, although the story’s specific Middle Eastern location has not been identified in the announced synopsis.
Familiar faces return to the family business
Ray Winstone returns as Susie’s father, Bobby Glass, alongside Joely Richardson as Eddie’s mother, Lady Sabrina, and Vinnie Jones as groundskeeper Geoff.
The returning ensemble also includes Jasmine Blackborow, Harry Goodwins, Benjamin Clementine and Maya Jama.
Two prominent names are absent from the announced returning cast: Daniel Ings, who played Eddie’s older brother Freddy, and Giancarlo Esposito, who portrayed American billionaire Stanley Johnston.
Their omission from the list leaves their involvement unresolved; it does not establish how either character’s story will develop.
Eight episodes and a larger creative canvas
The third season will comprise eight hour-long episodes, produced by Moonage Pictures for Netflix and Miramax TV.
Ritchie and Matthew Read are writing the series, with Ritchie and Evan Creevy directing. Theo James also remains among the executive producers.
When the renewal was announced in August, Ritchie described the direction of the next chapter: “The ambition of ‘The Gentlemen’ has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight.”
