Queen Camilla, 76, became the face of Mattel dolls on Tuesday, 12 March, when she posed with her own Barbie at Buckingham Palace. The royal was dressed in a cropped black cape by Amanda Wakely and a cobalt blue dress by Fiona Clare – the exact same outfit the doll, which was created in her likeness, has. A Mattel representative presented Camilla with a Barbie to honour her work with the Women of the World Foundation. The Queen called the gift brilliant and joked that Barbie looks much younger than she does.
‘She’s shed about 50 years of her life,’ the Queen said with a smile.
Camilla’s Barbie emphasises many of the Queen’s style details, she even wears a mini replica of her traditional blue-gold Van Cleef Vintage Alhambra bracelet along with pearl earrings – the same ones the Queen’s consort has. The doll is also adorned with a WOW brand brooch pinned on her cape, although Queen Camilla pinned it to her dress on Tuesday.
While King Charles III’s wife chose to wear black suede boots to the event, her doll was dressed in sheer black stockings and heeled shoes in a tone reminiscent of the Sole Bliss style often chosen by the royal family. Barbie’s presentation was not the only important event of the day for the Queen, Camilla later met at a reception in honour of International Women’s Day with representatives of charities and important personalities, including Queen Mathilde of Belgium, actress Helen Mirren, Spice Girls member Melanie Brown and her daughter Phoenix Brown.
