On 22 March Pierpaolo Piccioli unexpectedly announced that he was leaving the post of Valentino’s creative director after 25 years of working for the brand. A few days later, the brand announced on social media that 51-year-old Alessandro Michele was replacing him.
“The fashion house Valentino is honoured to announce the appointment of Alessandro Michele as creative director,” reads the official statement. – “This marks the beginning of a journey to honour the brand’s values, heritage and stylistic code from Alessandro Michele’s unique perspective.”
Michele rose to fame primarily as creative director of the Gucci brand, where he worked for 20 years. The designer was praised for his unique perspective on the brand’s key models, which were reinterpreted under his leadership. He vacated this position in 2022, on the eve of his 50th birthday.
It is known that Michele will start his duties at Valentino today, 2 April. And the debut collection (spring/summer 2025) as the head of the brand will show during the Paris Fashion Week in September this year.
