A year and a half ago Chris Hemsworth took part in the filming of the documentary series about aging “Limitless” for National Geographic. Especially for this he took a test for genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease. The results of the tests stunned “Thor” – it turned out that he has eight to ten times more chances to get dementia than the average person.
Chris was found to have two copies of the APOE4 gene associated with the risk of Alzheimer’s disease – one he got from his mother and the other from his father. Vanity Fair reports that Hemsworth was depressed and frightened when he received these results. He promised himself and his fans that he would take his health seriously, but he has no plans to leave the profession.
As time passed, Chris began to treat this story with a lot of positivity.
“When the emotions a little bit moved to the background, I realised that in all this there are pluses – if I had not done then the test for the documentary, I would not have learned about possible problems and would not have changed his life” – he said.
Now the actor tries to exercise every day, reduced alcohol consumption, carefully monitors his sleep and more rest.
“The idea that I may not remember the life I have lived, my wife, my children – probably my greatest fear,” – said the actor.
Because of the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease Hemsworth began to work less and spend more time with his family. The actor, who turned 40 last year, decided to write a book. He started jotting down ideas for a memoir, and a week ago he hired one of Los Angeles’ top literary agents, Matt Martin of Creative Arts, an agency with a reputation for buying and selling top scripts.
