Football player David Beckham and singer and designer Victoria Beckham have reacted to their nominations for the 2024 Emmy Awards. The pair are nominated in five categories at once for the Netflix documentary series ‘Beckham,’ which aired in 2023. The series showed fans an unbiased look at David’s career path and provided a glimpse into the beginning of his relationship with Victoria.
The 4-part film was nominated for an Emmy in the Best Documentary or Popular Science Series category, as well as in the categories of Best Cinematography in a Documentary Programme, Best Direction of a Documentary Programme, Best Editing and Best Music Composition. In response to the news of the nominations, David said he was very honoured to receive such attention from the Academy.
“I and the entire Beckham creative team are honoured to be recognised by the Television Academy. Creating this series has been such a personal journey, a love letter to football and my family. It has been overwhelming for Victoria and I to receive such a warm and positive response to the series. I’m so grateful to the incredible team led by Fisher Stevens, and to all the people who took part and played such an important part in my story.”
The joyous news came amid a Beckham family holiday. The father of the family gathered all the household on a mega yacht in Sardinia to celebrate daughter Harper’s 13th birthday. Victoria and David enjoyed a yacht trip as well as jet skiing. The family celebrated Harper’s 13th birthday by hanging pink and silver balloons, with Harper taking a place of honour at the head of the table, enjoying breakfast with her siblings Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 19. Her older brother Brooklyn, now 25, was apparently unable to attend the gala, staying in Los Angeles with his wife Nicola Peltz. However, he did show his appreciation for his little sister by posting a touching post on social media.
“Happy 13th birthday to the best little sister in the whole world. We love you so much,” the Beckhams’ eldest son wrote, adding a red heart emoji at the end.
