Last Thursday, 22 August, 59-year-old Keanu Reeves signed a one-day contract with the Ontario Hockey League club Windsor Spitfires, thus fulfilling a long-held dream. Reeves, who grew up in Toronto, tried out for the team as a teenager as a promising goalie, but ultimately was unable to play due to injury. Now, decades later, the actor is finally lacing up his skates and taking to the ice.
‘The Spitfires announced the addition to the roster on their social media accounts, posting photos of Reeves signing a contract and flaunting his new name jersey.
The team also auctioned off all items signed by the Hollywood star for charity. The proceeds are promised to benefit the Canadian Mental Health Association of Windsor-Essex.
Ironically, Reeves’ first role not to hit the ice in the past was as a hockey goalie in the 1986 film Young Blood, about a teenager trying to join the NHL. The film also starred Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze.
