Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour broke all records, becoming the highest-grossing tour in history, as well as the first tour to gross over $1 billion. However, Shakira’s upcoming world tour has already managed to break one of Swift’s records. The Colombian singer set a new record by becoming the first woman to sell out tickets for five consecutive concerts at the Estadio GNP Seguros stadium in Mexico City, Marca reports. This broke the record of pop star Swift, who sold out all tickets for four consecutive concerts during her last tour.
Shakira’s decision to postpone her North American tour to move shows from arenas to larger stadiums proved successful, the singer happily announced on social media.
“Mexico, darling, five concerts at Estadio GNP. We broke the record,” wrote the artiste.
Shakira had previously announced just four concerts at the stadium, but she added a fifth sold-out concert in response to extraordinary fan demand. According to the Estadio GNP Seguros website, the stadium is the second largest in Mexico City and holds 65,000 people during concert events.
“The demand for tickets and more shows has awakened us to move to stadiums in the US and organise more dates so I can see as many of you as possible,” Shakira said in a blog post.
Last week, the Latin star unveiled the music video for her single ‘Soltera,’ which has already racked up more than 26 million views. Shakira’s ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ world tour is named after the album of the same name, which she released in March this year.
