Queen Camilla, the wife of King Charles III, has welcomed a new furry member into her family—a rescue puppy named Molly. The heartwarming news was shared during her visit to Canterbury on Tuesday, February 25, where she unveiled a memorial to the writer Aphra Behn, who was born in the city. While meeting a group of visually impaired residents at the Museum of Art, the Queen bent down to pet a golden retriever guide dog and revealed that she had recently adopted an 8-week-old puppy from a shelter.
Describing the new addition, Camilla said Molly looks “just like a little mole.” The puppy’s mother is a Jack Russell Terrier mix, but the breed of the father remains unknown. When asked about Molly’s lineage, the Queen simply replied, “She’s a rescue dog.”
This adoption comes after the royal couple announced the passing of their beloved dog Beth in November last year. The sad news was shared by the palace on social media, along with touching photos of the Queen walking with Beth in the Highlands. Beth, who was also a rescue from the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, had been a cherished companion to Camilla, accompanying her on walks, official duties, and cozy evenings by the fireplace. Unfortunately, Beth had been suffering from an incurable tumor and was eventually put to sleep.
In addition to Molly, Queen Camilla is also the proud owner of another rescue dog, a Jack Russell Terrier named Bluebell. Both Beth and Bluebell have occasionally joined the Queen at royal events, even appearing alongside King Charles III and Camilla in a photo commemorating their 15th wedding anniversary.
Camilla’s decision to adopt Molly highlights her ongoing commitment to animal welfare and her support for rescue organizations. By giving a home to shelter dogs, the Queen continues to set an example of compassion and responsibility, proving that even royal pets can have humble beginnings.
