Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey has shared an unexpected key to his long-lasting marriage with wife Camila Alves, surprising fans with its simplicity: they forget their wedding anniversary date.
The couple, celebrating 13 years together this year, discussed this unique approach in a video McConaughey posted on his social media this past Monday, June 9th. The clip originated from an interview with Access Hollywood during the 13th annual “Mack, Jack & McConaughey” gala back in April.
In the video, after a reporter reminded them of their upcoming anniversary, McConaughey reacted with surprise: “13? No way! For some reason, Camila and I never remember our wedding date.” He acknowledged this wasn’t the first time they needed a reminder about their specific wedding day.

McConaughey clarified the deeper meaning behind the forgotten date, stating, “We might forget the date, but we always remember the meaning.”
Alongside the video, Brazilian model Camila Alves commemorated their anniversary by sharing a memorable western-themed photo. The picture showed her in a black dress adorned with a silver belt buckle, while McConaughey wore a denim jacket, a crisp white shirt, and completed his look with a cowboy hat.
In her heartfelt caption accompanying the photo, Alves reflected on their relationship: “Celebrating today… I never truly understood the sacred meaning of marriage until I met you.” She also offered advice to other couples: “To all the other couples celebrating an anniversary, I advise taking a pause to appreciate the meaning of why and how you came together.”

The couple’s lighthearted admission about forgetting their anniversary date, paired with their clear focus on the substance of their relationship and Alves’s poignant message, provides an unconventional yet relatable glimpse into their enduring 13-year marriage.
