Jason Momoa’s 16-year-old son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, is set to make his big-screen debut, sharing the screen with his famous father in the highly anticipated third installment of the “Dune” franchise, “Dune: Messiah.” The news was first reported by Deadline on Tuesday, June 17th.
Nakoa-Wolf, whom Momoa shares with ex-wife Lisa Bonet along with 17-year-old daughter Lola Iolani, will portray the son of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya) in the upcoming film. According to Deadline’s insider, his twin sister in the film, Ghanima, will be played by actress Ida Brook.
While official casting confirmations are still pending, it is widely expected that Jason Momoa will reprise his role as the charismatic warrior Duncan Idaho. Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya are also anticipated to return as Paul and Chani, continuing the saga set 12 years after the events depicted in “Dune: Part Two.” Acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve, who earned an Oscar nomination for his work on the first film, will return to helm “Dune: Messiah,” adapting Frank Herbert’s second novel in the series. Villeneuve previously split Herbert’s first “Dune” novel into two critically and commercially successful films.
The “Dune” franchise has proven to be an awards powerhouse. The first film, released in 2021, garnered ten Academy Award nominations and won six, including Best Original Score, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Visual Effects. Its sequel, “Dune: Part Two,” continued the success with five Oscar nominations at the 97th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects.
The continuation of this epic sci-fi saga, “Dune: Messiah,” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 16, 2026, marking the professional acting debut of Nakoa-Wolf Momoa under the direction of Denis Villeneuve and alongside his father.
