Sharon Stone has returned to the spotlight in a provocative new advertising campaign for the fashion house Mugler, channeling the unforgettable aesthetic of her most iconic film role in Paul Verhoeven’s 1992 thriller “Basic Instinct.”

The campaign visuals deliberately echo the film’s most notorious moment. Stone is captured languidly crossing and uncrossing her legs, directly referencing the cult interrogation scene, while showcasing pieces from Mugler’s latest collection. According to the brand’s press release, Stone “illustrates each silhouette with her expressive and seductive body language, highlighting the multifaceted femininity of Mugler.”

This campaign promotes Mugler’s new capsule collection, titled re/edit archive. The collection reinterprets signature pieces from the brand’s history, drawing distinct inspiration from the thrillers of the 1990s. It is considered the brand’s first significant collection to seriously engage with the legacy left by its founder, the late designer Thierry Mugler.

Stone’s collaboration with Mugler is not new; she previously walked in one of the brand’s fashion shows back in 1992, the same year “Basic Instinct” was released. Adding a personal artistic touch to the campaign, one of the striking images features Stone posing in front of a painting created by herself. This highlights Stone’s established parallel career as a visual artist.

The Mugler re/edit archive collection, fronted by Stone’s evocative campaign, is scheduled to launch in stores in September 2025.
