The American Recording Academy has unveiled the nominees for the 68th Grammy Awards, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive ceremony on February 1st. This year’s list is highlighted by veteran rapper Kendrick Lamar’s dominant presence and a few unexpected names, including actor Timothy Chalamet.
Kendrick Lamar leads the pack with an impressive nine nominations. His latest studio album, “GNX,” has earned him a spot in the prestigious Album of the Year category. This marks the fifth consecutive year Lamar has been nominated in this category, a record-breaking feat no other artist has achieved. A win would secure his first-ever Grammy for Album of the Year.
Hot on his heels with seven nominations each are pop icon Lady Gaga, producer Jack Antonoff, and Canadian producer-songwriter Sirkutt. Lady Gaga finds herself in the running for the “Big Three” categories—Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year—for the first time simultaneously in her career. Her nominations also span pop and dance categories, where she will face stiff competition from the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, and Justin Bieber, who also garnered several nods for his work.
In a surprising turn, actor Timothy Chalamet received a nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for “A Complete Unknown,” in which he stars as Bob Dylan. The actor performs 17 of the 23 tracks on the soundtrack, making him eligible for the award, which is given to the featured performer or producer of the majority of the album’s music. The awards ceremony will take place on February 1st at the Crypto.com Arena, featuring an expanded field of 95 categories, including two new ones: Best Traditional Country Album and Best Cover.
