Abu Dhabi Festival is preparing for one of its most ambitious editions yet, with a 2026 programme that brings together Hans Zimmer, the UAE National Orchestra, American Ballet Theatre, leading classical musicians, opera stars and cross-cultural performances across the capital.

Running from October 10 to December 19 under the theme “Wisdom of Culture,” the festival will unfold across major venues including Etihad Arena, Cultural Foundation, Louvre Abu Dhabi and The Arts Centre at NYU Abu Dhabi. The season also carries special symbolic weight as it marks 50 years of cultural ties between the UAE and the United States.

Sondra Radvanovsky and Vincenzo Scalera

On October 17, soprano Sondra Radvanovsky and pianist Vincenzo Scalera will perform at The Red Theater at NYU Abu Dhabi.

The programme will move through works by Bellini, Verdi and Puccini, alongside Rachmaninoff, Richard Strauss and Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. For classical audiences, the evening promises one of the festival’s most vocally demanding and emotionally rich programmes.

Hans Zimmer

One of the biggest names on the line-up arrives on November 13, when Hans Zimmer brings his The Next Level tour to Etihad Arena.

The Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer will transform some of cinema’s most recognizable scores into a large-scale live production combining orchestra, electronic music and immersive visuals. Zimmer’s catalogue includes music from The Lion King, Gladiator, Inception, Interstellar and Dune, and the Abu Dhabi concert will rework material from across his career specifically for the arena setting.

American Ballet Theatre

On November 21, American Ballet Theatre will take over Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental with a programme featuring works by three major American choreographers.

The evening includes Twyla Tharp’s Sextet, Alexei Ratmansky’s Serenade after Plato’s Symposium and George Balanchine’s Theme and Variations, creating a programme that moves between playfulness, introspection and classical precision.

Algarabia

The festival continues on November 26 with Algarabia, a production that brings together flamenco and Arab poetic traditions.

Musicians from Spain’s University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra will perform alongside dancers and actors in a story centered on an Arab girl whose search for ancient botanical knowledge intersects with the world of a Spanish florist. The production reflects the festival’s wider interest in cultural dialogue and artistic exchange.

Verdi’s Opera Gala

On November 29, Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental will host a gala dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi, marking 125 years since the composer’s death.

Led by soprano Maria Agresta and tenor Giorgio Berrugi, the programme will feature selections from Nabucco, I Vespri Siciliani, Otello and La Traviata, alongside orchestral overtures and duets from Verdi’s wider repertoire.

Lisa Batiashvili and Giorgi Gigashvili

On December 10, Georgian musicians Lisa Batiashvili and Giorgi Gigashvili will perform at the Cultural Foundation.

Their programme will include works by Beethoven, Bartók and Franck, as well as a new composition by Israeli-Georgian composer Josef Bardanashvili.

Minsoo Sohn

The following evening, December 11, Korean-American pianist Minsoo Sohn will perform Book One of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier at the Cultural Foundation.

The work’s 24 preludes and fugues span every major and minor key, offering a programme built less on spectacle and more on depth, structure and emotional nuance.

Dhafer Youssef

The festival closes on December 19 at Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Auditorium Plaza with Tunisian musician Dhafer Youssef.

Known for combining jazz with Arab and North African musical traditions, as well as influences from European classical, Turkish and Indian music, Youssef will perform with his quintet. His live sets are also known for electronic textures and a distinctly contemporary approach to the oud.
