Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig are engaged, marking a new chapter in a relationship that began after both experienced the very public breakdown of their marriages.
The actor and immigration attorney confirmed their plans to marry, with Shue describing them as “very grateful and hopeful.”
Their announcement comes a month after their former spouses, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, married in a private ceremony in Arkansas. But Shue’s account of his relationship with Fiebig centres on something more personal: a friendship that developed when both needed support.
A friendship that became something more
Reports of Shue and Fiebig’s relationship first emerged in 2023, roughly a year after Robach and Holmes’s romance became public.
Reflecting on how they found each other, Shue described the connection as unexpected.
“You don’t know how you meet the person who’s right for you,” he said. “It just happened.”
He explained that they had opened up to one another during a period when each needed a friend. That friendship eventually became a romantic relationship, bringing them to their engagement three years after reports of their relationship first surfaced.
Fiebig, who shares a daughter with Holmes, and Shue now have a milestone of their own to celebrate after years in which their personal lives attracted attention through their former partners.
The television story behind their shared history
The connection between the two couples became a major entertainment story in late 2022, when photographs and reports of Robach and Holmes’s relationship began circulating.
At the time, Robach and Holmes were co-anchors of ABC’s GMA3: What You Need to Know. Reports alleged that their romance had begun while they were still with their respective spouses.
The broadcasters later disputed that account, saying in 2023 that they had both been in the process of divorcing.
They left their ABC News roles in January 2023, and both divorces were finalised that year.
Two relationships reach new milestones
Robach and Holmes married in September 2026, taking their relationship into another chapter almost four years after it became public.
Shue and Fiebig’s engagement now follows, adding a different development to a story that initially brought all four into an intense media spotlight.
For Shue, the relationship grew from the companionship he and Fiebig offered each other during a difficult transition. Their engagement gives that connection a future beyond the circumstances in which it began.
