Queen Elizabeth II attended a lavish show “A Gallop Through History” at Windsor Palace, which was the closing of the Royal Horse Show and the first event in a series of celebrations of the Platinum Jubilee of her reign. The Queen was in high spirits and smiling all the time.
Her Majesty arrived at the event to the sound of the national anthem in a Range Rover, accompanied by the Household Cavalry as well as her youngest son, Prince Edward, 58, and his wife, Countess Sophie of Wessex. For the event, Elizabeth chose an ice blue sequinned dress, matching cardigan, spacious grey cape, black loafers and handbag, and completed the look with pearl earrings and a necklace. The audience in the stands greeted the queen with a standing ovation. Under a storm of applause, leaning on a cane, Her Majesty went up to the royal box on her own. She was flanked by a Territorial Army officer, Simon Brooks-Ward, 45, and an unknown friend of the royal family.
The gala show, attended by more than 1,300 people, including military and horsemen, 600 horses, a 75-member orchestra and a children’s choir, was not without music and film stars. Singer Catherine Jenkins performed at the event, actress Helen Mirren prepared a theatrical performance with a historical theme, and Tom Cruise announced the Royal Orchestra from the stage.
Cruise, who is currently promoting his new film Top Gun: Maverick in the UK and was surrounded by a crowd of fans on arrival at the event in Windsor, admitted it was “a real honour and privilege” to be part of the Queen’s 70th birthday celebrations.
It should be noted that the Queen has had to cancel a number of meetings in recent months, and last week she missed the official opening of the new parliamentary session altogether. She was replaced at the event by 73-year-old Prince Charles, who read a speech on Elizabeth’s behalf, and Prince William, 39. Rumours swirled among the public the same hour that Charles was preparing to replace his mother on the throne.
In addition, it was previously stated that the official celebrations to mark the Platinum Jubilee of the Queen’s reign will also be held without her. In various countries of the United Kingdom, Her Majesty is to be represented by Prince William and Kate Middleton, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and the Countess Sophie of Wessex.
However, Her Majesty’s representatives now claim that she is in excellent spirits and continues to perform her royal duties “behind the scenes” and has difficulty moving around sporadically. According to aides, the Queen has “good days and less good days”.
