In the USA, the nominees for the world’s most important music award, the Grammy, have been announced. It will take place for the 65th time, this year at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has announced the list of nominees who will compete for the Grammy Awards on 5 February 2023.
The leader in the number of nominations is Beyoncé – the name Queen B is claimed in 9 categories. Incidentally, the singer fell into the same number of categories in 2020 and walked away with four statuettes. So, Beyoncé became the most nominated star in Grammy history, and from that line she displaced not anyone, but her own husband Jay-Z. Last year, he led the way with three nominations – he had 83 in total.
Kendrick Lamar could get eight gramophones, while British singer Adele and US rock singer Brandi Carlisle are represented in seven categories. “Last year’s rookie band ABBA is nominated in four categories for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Duo or Group Performance and Best Vocal Pop Album.
This year there are four new categories: Best Game Soundtrack, Best Songwriter, Best spoken word album, Best Alternative Performance and Best Americana Performance. There will also be a special award for Best Song for Social Change.
