Every year Dior collaborates with renowned artists from around the world for its Dior Lady Art project, and for the seventh edition the house has teamed up with two artists from the Middle East.
Originally from Qatar, Bouthayna Al Muftah defends her homeland through performative works, paintings, prints and conceptual installations. Through these art forms, she preserves traditional crafts and shares the stories of the Qatari people. Al Muftah uses hand-embroidered chiffon to mirror manuscripts and typographic art, combining nostalgia and Arab identity without a single word.
Cairo-born artist Ghada Amer presents an ode to femininity in her interpretation of Lady Dior. Amer is known for her feminist work and continues her multi-coloured mission of empowering women in a vibrant collaboration with Dior. Words embodying feminine power are embroidered on the sides of Lady Dior in a playful yellow and blue patchwork, while the House’s signature DIOR charm is accompanied by a new iteration of GHADA, a tribute to the first artist of Egyptian origin invited to participate in the project.
The project is a demonstration of technique, craftsmanship and creativity, driven by a spirit of innovation. Other artists taking part in the project include Brian Calvin, Sarah Kweinar, Alex Gardner, Share Hughes, Minding Kim, Zhenya Machneva, Françoise Petrovic and Wang Yuyang.
