The traditional procession of the Order of the Garter was held in London. The event was attended by senior members of the royal family – King Charles III, his wife Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh. Catherine, Princess of Wales, and the Duchess of Edinburgh Sophie watched the procession from the sidelines.
The ceremony took place at the Royal Castle Windsor and ended at St George’s Chapel. It was watched by about 2900 people who greeted the king and queen. The Order of the Garter was founded by King Edward III some 700 years ago. Today it includes senior members of the royal family and a further 24 people who are knighted for special merit.
Despite the importance of the event, it was Kate Middleton’s look that generated the most conversation. She chose a white polka dot dress by Alessandra Rich. The princess accessorised the outfit with a Strathberry clutch, a hat by Irish fashion designer Philip Treacy and pearl Collingwood earrings, which previously belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. Incidentally, Catherine’s entire outfit has been compared by fans to Diana’s image at the Royal Ascot Ball in 1988. Then she also appeared in a polka dot dress, pearl earrings and a hat.
The Duchess of Edinburgh, who walked alongside Kate for the entire event, appeared in a white dress with a floral print by Emilia Wickstead. Sophie completed the look with a pink hat.
