A DIFFERENT WAY TO EXPERIENCE MYKONOS

I have been coming to Mykonos for around ten years.

And after so many visits, I have realised something: there is no single correct way to experience this island.

Sometimes you want the full energy of Mykonos — restaurants, people, music and nights that finish when the sun is already coming up.

And sometimes you want exactly the opposite.

You want your own pool.

Your own terrace.

Your friends around you.

And nobody else.

D’Angelo Villas is interesting precisely because it allows you to choose.

The collection ranges from a private estate and boutique suites in Foumia to rooftop residences positioned closer to the heart of the island’s action.

This is not hospitality built around a huge lobby or hundreds of rooms.

It feels more personal than that.

And sometimes, particularly in Mykonos, personal is exactly what you want.

THE NEW DEFINITION OF LUXURY: SPACE

I think our understanding of luxury has changed.

Ten or fifteen years ago, people often measured a luxury hotel through visible excess.

How large is the lobby?

How much marble is there?

How many restaurants?

Today, I increasingly value something else.

The possibility of closing the door and knowing that what happens behind it belongs only to you and the people you have chosen to be there.

This is where the villa format becomes particularly powerful.

You don’t have to coordinate your day around a hotel.

You can have breakfast whenever you want.

Spend an afternoon by your own pool.

Invite friends over.

Stay in for the evening.

Or disappear into Mykonos and return when you feel like it.

That independence changes the entire rhythm of a trip.

MAJESTIC VILLA: A PRIVATE MYKONOS ESTATE

At the heart of the Foumia collection is Majestic Villa, the brand’s signature private estate.

Set on approximately 4,200 square metres, the property accommodates up to ten guests and includes five en-suite bedrooms, seven bathrooms, three hot tubs and a private illuminated swimming pool. There are also extensive gardens, indoor-outdoor kitchen and lounge areas, a gym, separate staff accommodation and a private gated entrance.

But what interests me more than the specifications is the idea behind it.

A villa like this changes the social dynamic of Mykonos.

Instead of ten people booking separate hotel rooms and constantly arranging where to meet, the house itself becomes the meeting point.

Breakfast becomes an event.

An afternoon beside the pool becomes part of the trip.

Even doing absolutely nothing together becomes a memory.

That is something traditional hotels cannot always reproduce.

PRIVACY WITHOUT DISCONNECTING FROM THE ISLAND

Privacy in Mykonos can sometimes come with a compromise: the more secluded you become, the further you are from everything you actually came to the island to experience.

D’Angelo handles that balance intelligently.

Majestic Villa is located in Foumia, a quieter elevated residential area, while remaining approximately 2.7 km from Mykonos Town, 2 km from the airport, 1.7 km from Psarou Beach and 1.8 km from Ornos Beach, according to the property.

For me, that is important.

I like privacy.

But I don’t necessarily want isolation.

Especially not in Mykonos.

You want to be able to spend several peaceful hours at the villa and then, when you decide, be back inside the energy of the island.

The luxury is having both options.

NOT ONE MYKONOS, BUT SEVERAL

What makes the D’Angelo concept particularly interesting is that it doesn’t try to sell one universal version of the island.

Its portfolio is divided into different experiences.

There is the larger private villa experience.

There are six boutique luxury suites in Foumia, positioned as a more intimate option particularly suited to couples.

And there is the Sky-View Collection, consisting of three houses with rooftop terraces closer to the energy of Mykonos Town.

I like this approach because different travellers can come to Mykonos looking for completely different things.

A couple coming for four days does not necessarily need the same experience as a group of ten friends.

A person who wants privacy does not necessarily want to stay in the centre.

And somebody visiting primarily for restaurants and nightlife may prefer to be much closer to town.

Luxury hospitality becomes stronger when it understands those differences rather than trying to give every guest exactly the same product.

THE VILLA AS A SOCIAL SPACE

There is another reason why villas work particularly well in Mykonos.

This island is social.

People travel here together.

Friends meet friends.

Plans change constantly.

Someone you met at lunch might join you for dinner.

Dinner might become drinks.

Drinks might become sunrise.

And that is something I personally appreciate.

The pool is no longer simply somewhere to swim.

The terrace isn’t just an architectural feature.

The living room isn’t just somewhere to sit.

They become social spaces.

The property becomes part of your story on the island rather than simply somewhere you return to sleep.

HOSPITALITY WITHOUT THE FORMALITY

One of the interesting shifts happening in luxury travel is the movement away from unnecessary formality.

Guests still expect excellent service.

Perhaps more than ever.

But service does not always need to be visible.

D’Angelo describes its philosophy around carefully managed homes, local knowledge and personalised guest support, and the company says its team has been living and working on Mykonos for more than a decade.

That local element matters.

Mykonos can be incredibly easy when you know the island — and surprisingly complicated when you don’t.

Knowing where to go, when to go, what to book and how to move around can completely change your experience.

Good hospitality is often simply about removing those small complications.

There is something else I appreciate about properties like D’Angelo.

That can be wonderful.

But it isn’t always how I want to experience a place.

With a private residence, the relationship with the destination becomes different.

You feel slightly less like a hotel guest and slightly more like you are living on the island.

Even temporarily.

You wake up in your own space.

You decide what the day looks like.

You leave when you want.

You come home when you want.

And that sense of independence can become addictive.

WHY THIS FORMAT MATTERS NOW

Luxury travel is becoming increasingly personalised.

Some travellers still want the grand hotel.

Others want boutique properties.

And a growing number want something somewhere in between a hotel and a private residence.

They want space and independence but don’t want to sacrifice hospitality.

They want to travel with friends or family without living in separate rooms along a corridor.

They want privacy without disappearing completely.

D’Angelo represents this evolution particularly well.

The product is not based on the idea that everyone should experience Mykonos in the same way.

MY PERSONAL IMPRESSION

After so many years of returning to Mykonos, I have learned that the places I remember most are not necessarily the largest or the loudest.

It offers something that becomes increasingly valuable when you travel frequently:

For a couple, there are more intimate suites.

For those who want to be closer to the energy of Mykonos, there are rooftop residences.

For a group of friends or family wanting their own private world, there is a full-scale estate.

Different moods.

The same island.

And perhaps that is the most authentic way to understand Mykonos — not by trying to experience everything at once, but by choosing the version of the island that feels right for you.
