There are beautiful hotels. There are luxury hotels. And then there are places that become symbols of their destinations.
Cavo Tagoo Mykonos belongs to the third category.
As part of the international WOW Magazine — Top Hotels of the World 2026 project, our editorial journey continues across the world’s most remarkable hospitality destinations — places that go beyond traditional five-star standards and create their own visual language, atmosphere and culture.
This time, we return to Mykonos.
And there is one hotel that has become almost impossible to separate from the modern image of the island itself.
Cavo Tagoo Mykonos joins the WOW Magazine selection of Top Hotels of the World 2026, receiving an overall editorial rating of 9.9/10.
For years, its infinity pools, white Cycladic architecture, extraordinary sunsets and unmistakable atmosphere have travelled around the world through photography and social media.
But there is an important difference between seeing Cavo Tagoo on a screen and actually experiencing it.
Because Cavo Tagoo is not simply photogenic.
It has energy.
Review by Igor Sergeev, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of WOW Magazine
A Hotel I Keep Coming Back To
I have been coming to Mykonos for years.
And this is important because when you return to the same destination again and again, you stop seeing it through the eyes of a tourist.
You begin to understand its rhythm.
You know which places remain relevant and which disappear after a few seasons. You understand where people go because something is fashionable at the moment — and which places manage to become part of the identity of the island itself.
For me, Cavo Tagoo belongs to the latter.
I have known this hotel for years, and perhaps that is why this review is more personal than most.
Every time I return, I have the same feeling: Cavo Tagoo continues to evolve, but somehow manages not to lose its identity.
And that is much more difficult than it sounds.
Mykonos changes constantly. New restaurants open. New beach clubs appear. New luxury hotels compete for attention.
Yet Cavo Tagoo remains Cavo Tagoo.

And today, when so many hotels around the world begin to resemble one another, having an identity is one of the greatest luxuries of all.
The First Impression: The Aegean Everywhere
There are hotels where the lobby creates the first impression.
At Cavo Tagoo, the first impression is the horizon.
The architecture is unmistakably Cycladic — white surfaces, organic forms, natural stone and spaces designed around the extraordinary blue of the Aegean.
But it does not feel like a reproduction of traditional Mykonian architecture.
It feels like its contemporary evolution.
The sea is constantly present.
You see it from the rooms.
You see it from the terraces.
You see it from the pool.
And then, toward sunset, the entire visual identity of the hotel changes.
White becomes gold.

The water reflects the sky.
The music gets slightly louder.
People begin gathering around the pool.
And Cavo Tagoo moves almost imperceptibly from resort to social destination.
This transition between day and night is one of the things the hotel does exceptionally well.
The Infinity Pool That Became an Icon
If there is one image most people associate with Cavo Tagoo, it is probably the infinity pool overlooking the Aegean.
And yes — in reality, it is every bit as impressive.

During the day, the Pool & Lounge operates as a place to swim, relax on floating beds, have cocktails and spend an afternoon overlooking the sea. In the evening, the same space transitions into a lounge environment with music, dining and different seating experiences.
But the pool is more than an amenity.
It is the social heart of the hotel.
And I think that is one of the secrets behind Cavo Tagoo’s longevity.
Many luxury resorts are designed around accommodation.
Cavo Tagoo is designed around experience.
You can spend an entire afternoon here without feeling the need to go anywhere else.
And when the sun begins to disappear into the Aegean, you understand why this particular view has been photographed millions of times.
Still, photographs don’t completely capture it.
Because the sunset here is not only visual.
There is music. There are people. There is movement. There is the sea breeze.
There is a very particular Mykonos energy.

Architecture Designed to Be Remembered
One of the strongest aspects of Cavo Tagoo is its ability to create spaces that are instantly recognisable.
In a world where luxury hotels increasingly share the same visual references, that is an achievement.
The accommodation ranges from premium rooms to suites and large private villas, with many categories offering private pools or outdoor hot tubs and views over the Aegean.
But perhaps the most recognisable concept is the Cave Pool Suite.

Built into the natural rock environment, the suite features a cave-like infinity pool and sea views. The hotel itself describes its cave pools as the first of their kind on Mykonos, created within the property’s historic stone-quarry setting.
This is where Cavo Tagoo becomes particularly interesting from a branding perspective.
The hotel did not simply create a beautiful room.
It created an image people remember.

And in modern luxury, that matters.
The best design does not need a logo for you to recognise where you are.
From Private Pools to Extraordinary Villas
The range of accommodation also allows Cavo Tagoo to create very different experiences within the same property.
A Premium Room with Pool offers a more intimate interpretation of the hotel, with a private outdoor pool and sea view. Suites expand the experience with additional living space and private pools, while the larger villas move into an entirely different category.
At the top end, the Platinum Villa offers three bedrooms, approximately 200 square metres of space, a private heart-shaped infinity pool and two hot tubs.

The Diamond Villa, meanwhile, reaches approximately 250–325 square metres and combines three bedrooms with a private infinity pool and two outdoor hot tubs.
These are not simply larger hotel rooms.
They allow you to create your own private Mykonos within Cavo Tagoo.
And this combination — access to one of the island’s most recognisable social environments while still being able to retreat into complete privacy — is one of the hotel’s strongest propositions.

Mykonos Is About Energy — And Cavo Tagoo Understands It
This is where Cavo Tagoo differs from many traditional luxury resorts.
You don’t necessarily come here to disappear completely from the world.
You come here to decide when you want to be part of it.
There can be absolute privacy inside your suite or villa.
Then, twenty minutes later, you can be having a cocktail by one of the most recognisable pools in Mykonos, surrounded by an international crowd.
That contrast is important.
Mykonos itself is built on contrasts.
It can be peaceful in the morning and completely different after sunset.
Minimalist and extravagant.
Private and social.

Traditional and international.
Cavo Tagoo understands this duality extremely well.
It does not try to turn Mykonos into something it isn’t.
It takes the island’s personality and amplifies it.
Gastronomy: From Greece to Japan
Food naturally plays an important role in the Cavo Tagoo experience.
Meraki, the hotel’s signature restaurant, focuses on Greek-Mediterranean dining, with dishes designed for sharing and a concept that combines refined cuisine with the relaxed glamour associated with Mykonos.
Then there is Zuma Mykonos, bringing contemporary Japanese cuisine, cocktails and panoramic Aegean views into the wider Cavo Tagoo experience. Hotel guests have direct access to Zuma through a private connection from the hotel, and the property states that residents can request reservations up to 24 hours in advance.

Again, what works here is not simply the food.
It is the combination.
The setting.
The sunset.
The music.
The people.
The transition from dinner into the Mykonos night.
A great luxury hotel understands that gastronomy is no longer a separate department.
It is part of the story.
Service That Understands the Mykonos Lifestyle
Luxury service today should not simply be formal.
It should solve problems before they become problems.
Cavo Tagoo’s concierge offering reflects the kind of guest the hotel attracts: private yacht and helicopter charters, VIP transfers, personalised experiences, special-occasion planning and professional photography are among the services available.
That is particularly important in Mykonos.
Because this is an island where logistics can define your experience.
Where are you having dinner?
How are you getting there?
Do you need a yacht tomorrow?
Where will you spend sunset?
How do you organise the evening?
The best concierge service does not make these things feel complicated.
And at this level of hospitality, that efficiency is part of luxury.
Wellness Between Two Sides of Mykonos
There is another Cavo Tagoo that exists away from the music and social energy.
The hotel has its own spa and fitness facilities. The spa offers massages, facial and body treatments, aromatherapy, a sauna and steam bath, while the fitness centre is available to hotel guests.
And I actually like this contrast.
You can have a very Mykonos evening and then wake up the next morning, train, have breakfast overlooking the sea and spend several quiet hours by your private pool.

Again, it comes back to choice.
The hotel doesn’t force one version of Mykonos on you.
You create your own.
Why Cavo Tagoo Became a Global Brand
From my perspective as someone who has spent many years working with media, PR and personal brands, Cavo Tagoo is also an interesting business case.
Because very few hotels manage to turn architecture into media.
Cavo Tagoo has.
Its infinity pool is recognisable.
Its cave pools are recognisable.
Its white architecture against the blue Aegean is recognisable.
Its sunsets are recognisable.
You can sometimes see a photograph without seeing the hotel’s name and still understand where it was taken.
That is powerful branding.
Social media certainly helped Cavo Tagoo become internationally visible.
But social media alone cannot create an icon.
Millions of beautiful hotel photographs are uploaded every day.
Most disappear from memory almost immediately.
To remain relevant, there has to be something underneath the image.
Cavo Tagoo has created a world people want to enter.
That is the difference.
The Luxury of Being Part of the Moment
When we talk about luxury, we often talk about privacy.
And privacy is important.
But I think there is another form of luxury that is particularly relevant to places like Mykonos.
Access.
Being exactly where you want to be.
At exactly the right moment.
Seeing the sunset from the right table.
Meeting the right people.
Feeling connected to the energy of a destination without having to chase it.
Cavo Tagoo gives you that.
You don’t feel as though you are observing Mykonos from the outside.
You feel part of it.
And perhaps that is why the hotel has remained relevant for so long.
My Personal Impression
I have been visiting Mykonos for around ten years, and every time I return, the island is slightly different.
Some places disappear.
Others change beyond recognition.
New names arrive every season.
But there are a few places that become part of your personal geography of a destination.

For me, Cavo Tagoo is one of them.
It is not a hotel I discovered yesterday.
And perhaps that makes my assessment more meaningful.
Because creating a beautiful hotel is one achievement.
Remaining desirable year after year is another.
Cavo Tagoo has managed to do both.
Would I come back?
I already have.
And I believe that is perhaps the most convincing review any hotel can receive.
